7.2 Damage in ABAQUS/CAE

Benefits: You can now define damage initiation criteria and damage evolution in ABAQUS/CAE.

Description: You can now define damage initiation criteria and damage evolution in the Property module of ABAQUS/CAE. The following forms of damage are available:

Damage for ductile metals:
- Ductile
- Johnson-Cook
- Shear
- Forming limit diagram (FLD)
- Forming limit stress diagram (FLSD)
- Marciniak-Kuczynski (M-K)
- Müschenborn-Sonne forming limit diagram (MSFLD)
Damage for traction separation laws:
- Maximum or quadratic nominal strain (MAXE, QUADE)
- Maximum or quadratic nominal stress (MAXS, QUADS)
Damage for fiber-reinforced composites:
- Hashin

Several of these damage forms—Johnson-Cook, MSFLD, and Hashin—are new to ABAQUS. They are described in “Johnson-Cook damage initiation criterion in ABAQUS/Explicit,” Section 7.7; “Müschenborn-Sonne forming limit diagram (MSFLD) in ABAQUS/Explicit,” Section 7.6; and “Damage model for fiber-reinforced composite materials,” Section 7.8, respectively.

   Edit Material: MechanicalDamage for Ductile Metals, Traction Separation Laws, or
   Fiber-Reinforced Compositesselect a damage type
