14.7 Using mirrors and patterns to display symmetric model results

Products: ABAQUS/CAE  ABAQUS/Viewer

Benefits: You can use mirrors and patterns to create images of a complete model based on analysis of a representative portion of the model. You can produce complete images for reports or presentations without extensive postprocessing.

Description: You can use a rectangular pattern, a circular pattern, and mirrors to display copies of analysis results in a viewport. Copying results within the Visualization module allows you to visualize a complete symmetric model without the expense of analyzing the entire model. Use the following options to control the copying of results in the viewport:

To mirror results:

Select a mirror coordinate system, and select the planes to be used as mirrors. Choose whether display bodies are mirrored along with the analysis results.

To pattern results:

Select a pattern coordinate system. Select a number and offset distance in each direction to define a rectangular pattern; and select an axis, number of copies, and total angle to define a circular pattern. You can define both a rectangular and a circular pattern for the same results.

As shown in Figure 14–7, you can also select the order of operations that ABAQUS/CAE uses to make the copies in the viewport. Figure 14–8 shows a rectangular pattern of fasteners created from a quarter-symmetry model using mirrors and patterns.
