Prep: JavaScript 2

Intro

Last week’s Studio focused on using JavaScript to deal with UI events. This week’s studio will cover:

• Additional details of JavaScript use in Event-Driven programming
• JavaScript Objects / JSON

Studio Prep

Khan Academy’s Intro to JS: Drawing and Animation contains a lot of great content, but some isn’t relevant to our needs. Feel free to complete the entire course to sharpen your overall JavaScript skills or just take a quick review of the directly relevant components:

• Arrays
• Objects
• Object Oriented Design

Mozilla Developer Network (MDN) has a lot of really great resources for web development. MDN provides more thorough details on JavaScript objects. Review their series of articles on Objects, Introducing JavaScript Objects. This is a multi-part series and not all components are necessary for 222, but be sure to review:

• Object Basics
• Object Oriented JavaScript
• Object Prototypes (This can be a difficult read. It may be worthwhile to carefully experiment with the examples)
• Working with JSON in addition, review MDN’s reference on the various ways to create functions in JavaScript:
• Functions. Be aware of the syntax for function expressions. Although this class won’t require it, the arrow function expression is commonly seen in modern JavaScript.
