Intro

This week’s studios will:

• Explore additional hardware
• Continue to explore uses of WebHooks and integration with outside services

Studio Prep (Monday)

Bring:

• Photon
• Breadboard
• Dallas DS18B20 Temperature sensor. The kit contains two:
  • NonSealed (Be careful! There’s a transistor that has the same size/shape/package. Pay close attention to the print on the device!)
  • Sealed. You may want to strip additional insulation from the wires or “wrap” them the jumper wires in the kit.
• Resistor(s): A 4.7k or 10k
• PIR Sensor

There’s no new prep for studio this week, but prior to the quiz you should finish prior prep work if you haven’t already:

1. AdaFruit’s All the Internet of Things: Protocols Segment on Protocols (Watch the videos and read the page). This overview introduces some of the many protocols (HTTP, MQTT, CoAP), data formats (XML, JSON), and techniques (REST) used for IoT.
2. MDN’s HTTP Messages
3. Khan Academy’s How the Internet Works sequence (particularly the HTTP and HTML unit)
4. WikiPedia’s very short article on WebHooks
5. Particle’s WebHooks support info.
