Benefits: The undeformed plot state is now the default for use in viewing an output database, and you can apply multiple plot states to a viewport. Many plot customization options that were previously set for each plot type are now independent of the plot type.
Description: Plot modes have been replaced by plot states for displaying results in a viewport. Previously, the plot mode allowed only one type of plot and one set of plot options to be displayed in a viewport. Plot states allow multiple plot shapes, multiple plot states, and multiple plot customization options to be applied simultaneously. For example, you can now display contours on the deformed model shape and the undeformed shape and customize all three states—deformed, undeformed, and contour—in a single viewport.
Most plot options such as render style; edge visibility, style, and thickness; label display and font style; scaling; and translucency are now contained in the Common Plot Options dialog box, as shown in Figure 141. The common options are plot state–independent; that is, they apply to all undeformed, deformed, contour, symbol, or material orientation plots. The Superimpose Plot Options are plot state–independent options that match most of the common options, but they are used only when you superimpose the deformed model shape on the undeformed shape in a viewport. You can use the superimpose options to help distinguish the undeformed shape from the deformed shape when they both display the same results; when the undeformed shape is displayed alone, it uses the common plot options. The plot state–dependent (contour, symbol, and material orientation) options are now reduced to only those customization options that are unique to each plot state.
You can access the plot options dialog boxes from the Visualization module toolbox.
