12.6 Structural meshes of triangular elements can be created

Benefits: You can improve mesh quality by creating a structured mesh of triangular elements.

Description: If you were meshing a shell region with triangular elements, previous versions of ABAQUS/CAE allowed you to create only a free mesh. ABAQUS/CAE now allows you to create a structured mesh if your region is three-, four-, or five-sided. In most cases the mesh quality of a structured mesh is better than that of a free mesh. Figure 12–6 shows a shell part meshed with triangles using the different techniques and algorithms available in ABAQUS/CAE:
