8.5 Dynamic gaskets

Products: ABAQUS/Standard  ABAQUS/CAE

Benefits: The modeling of the dynamic stiffness and damping characteristics of gaskets in automotive components is important for noise-vibration-harshness (NVH) applications. This new feature allows you to consider these dynamic effects when modeling the steady-state dynamic response of gaskets about nonlinear preloaded states.

Description: ABAQUS/Standard has long supported the capability to carry out sophisticated nonlinear sealing analyses using the family of gasket elements. In NVH applications it is often important to study the steady-state harmonic vibratory response of automotive gaskets and other components about a nonlinear base state, such as the state at the end of a static sealing analysis. You can now specify dynamic stiffness and damping characteristics of gasket elements modeled using the gasket behavior approach. The dynamic properties are expressed in terms of effective thickness-direction storage and loss moduli that can be specified as tabular functions of the excitation frequency and the level of preload. The level of preload is measured by the closure at the end of the last nonlinear (sealing) step. Figure 8–3 shows the data table used in ABAQUS/CAE for direct specification of thickness-direction storage and bulk moduli in conjunction with the level of preload. These data entries enable the computation of the steady-state dynamic response.
