11.5 Customizing contact controls

Product: ABAQUS/CAE

Benefits: The ability to specify controls for ABAQUS/Standard and ABAQUS/Explicit contact interactions in ABAQUS/CAE increases the coverage of ABAQUS solver functionality.

Description: You can use the contact controls editors in the Interaction module to customize the variables that control the contact algorithms; however, the default settings are appropriate for most analyses. Contact controls are for advanced users and should be used with care.

The contact controls in the Interaction module replace the contact controls previously available for ABAQUS/Explicit analyses in the Step module and extend the functionality to ABAQUS/Standard analyses. You now specify contact controls for interactions instead of analysis steps. To customize the contact controls, you first modify the variable settings using the contact controls editor in the Interaction module. Then, you create a surface-to-surface contact or self-contact interaction and specify the contact controls to use for the interaction in the interaction editor. Figure 11–7 shows the contact controls editor for an ABAQUS/Standard analysis.
