2.2 Preselection highlighting

Product: ABAQUS/CAE

Benefits: Preselection highlighting allows you to see exactly which object will be selected from the viewport before you make a selection. It eliminates any uncertainty when you select an object from the current viewport in ABAQUS/CAE.

Description: Preselection highlighting is available during procedures that require you to select an object from the viewport. The highlighting is activated when you stop moving the cursor. If the object near the cursor is a valid selection for the current procedure, ABAQUS/CAE highlights the object in orange. Hidden objects, such as some edges and faces in a shaded model view, are also highlighted if they are the selections nearest to the cursor. Figure 2–1 shows an animation of preselection highlighting.

If more than one selection is possible, ABAQUS/CAE displays ellipsis marks (...) to the right of the cursor and highlights all the choices. Figure 2–2 shows two preselected planes; this ambiguous preselection occurs if you toggle off the ABAQUS/CAE default behavior to select the object nearest to the screen. You can reposition the cursor to remove the ambiguity or click mouse button 1 to accept the ambiguous selection. If you make an ambiguous selection, you must use the Next, Previous, and OK buttons in the prompt area to cycle through the objects and make your final selection.

Preselection in the Sketcher remains unchanged from previous versions of ABAQUS/CAE.
