ABSTRACT
Ethernet, which was originally standardized at 10 Mbps, has now been extended to run at 100 Mbps. While 100 Mbps "EThernet" was being standardized, Hewlett-Packard came up with a competing proposal now called 100VG-AnyLAN, which allows delay-sensitive continuous media traffic such as video and voice to be transmitted along with delay-insensitive data traffic. Fiber distributed data interface (FDDI) is another popular option available at this speed. The principles of operation of these LAN technologies will be explained in this seminar including how these are different from each other and what was done to increase the speed of Ethernet from 10 Mbps to 100 Mbps.
