Wireless Data Networking: An Introduction

ABSTRACT
This is the first of a two-part tutorial on wireless data networking. History and trends in wireless communication will be reviewed. Characteristics of wireless media such as infrared, radio, microwave, and satellites will be discussed. Methods of sharing wireless media using frequency, time, space, and code division multiple access methods will be explained. After a discussion of issues in transmitting data over wireless networks, a number of current and upcoming wireless networking products and services will be described.
