In brainstorming about the communication system we came up with three areas to focus on: the communication device, filtering the images, and compressing the images. The choice of communication device is very important because it will be going into space, meaning it needs to be reliable, it needs to be able to handle long distances, and it needs to transmit on a frequency we can rent. Filtering the images will decrease the amount of storage we need and the amount of data we transfer, both of which are potential bottlenecks in this experiment. Compression can also decrease the amount of data we store or transmit, but only at the cost of information. In order to make sure compression does not lose the information we want, we will need to test our algorithm thoroughly before we launch.
