Grocery shopping can often take a lot longer than necessary due to an aimless wandering, searching for that last obscure item on your grocery list. Additionally, items on your grocery list are not segmented into produce, dairy, and deli like a grocery store, so, often, you forget produce items and have to circle back or walk up and down aisle five three times. Our project aims to eliminate these inefficient practices by arranging an inputed grocery list into a logical sequence based on the layout of a particular grocery store. In doing so, the user will be able to identify in which aisle or section to locate each item on their list, see the fastest route they can take between the items, and the approximate time it will take them to shop for their desired list of groceries.

Project Idea

Objectives

  1. Create a database of a grocery store's items, locations, and prices
  2. Create an iPhone app that takes in a grocery list and arranges the items efficiently based on location in the grocery store
  3. Create a program that identifies item keywords so that the user does not have to input specific requests
  4. Develop a formula that estimates the time spent in the grocery store based on a list of items
