47.7.1 Stitching faces

You can create new faces by automatically stitching any gaps between free edges. Stitching gaps allows you to replace small faces, fillets, or chamfers that you previously deleted. The operation to stitch gaps is stored as a feature of the part; as a result, you can use the Model Tree to delete the stitch and revert to the original part. For more information, see What is stitching?, Section 47.3.

To stitch faces:

  1. From the main menu bar, select ToolsRepair.

ABAQUS/CAE displays the Geometry Repair Tools dialog box.

Tip:  You can also stitch faces using the tool, located with the repair tools in the Part module toolbox. For a diagram of the repair tools in the toolbox, see An overview of repair techniques, Section 47.2.

  2. From the dialog box, select Stitch and click OK.

  3. From the warning dialog box that appears, click OK.

ABAQUS/CAE tries to stitch the part.

  4. If you have finished repairing the part, you should check its validity by clicking mouse button 3 on the part in the Model Tree and selecting Update validity from the menu that appears.
