43.2 Creating a filter

Select ToolsFilterCreate from the main menu bar to create a filter. For more information on filters including a default filter type created automatically by ABAQUS, see Filtering history data, Section 43.1.

To create a filter:

  1. From the main menu bar, select ToolsFilterCreate.

Tip:  You can also create a filter by clicking Create in the Filter Manager.

The Create Filter dialog box appears.

  2. In the Name field, enter a name for the filter. For information on naming objects, see Using basic dialog box components, Section 3.2.1.

  3. From the Type list, select the type of filter that you want to create and then click Continue.

The Edit Filter dialog box appears.

  4. Enter the Cutoff frequency.

Note:  ABAQUS does not perform any checks to ensure that the cutoff frequency is appropriate. If the cutoff is set too low, valid data will be filtered from the results; if it is set too high, no filtering will be performed.

  5. Enter the Order for the filter, which must be a positive, even integer value no greater than 20.

  6. If you selected one of the Chebyshev filter types, accept the default Ripple factor or enter a value.

The Ripple factor determines the magnitude of data oscillation that you will allow in exchange for a faster transition between accepted and rejected data. For more information, see Filtering history output in ABAQUS/Explicit” in “Output to the output database, Section 4.1.3 of the ABAQUS Analysis User's Manual.

To apply the filter in an analysis, select Apply filter when you create a history output request for an ABAQUS/Explicit analysis procedure. For more information, see Modifying history output requests, Section 14.12.3.
