8.11 Specifying a slenderness compensation factor in beam section definitions

Benefits: When defining the transverse shear stiffness of a beam section, you can now specify a slenderness compensation factor directly.

Description: The slenderness compensation factor, , is used to prevent shear stiffness from becoming too large in slender beam elements (see Choosing a beam element, Section 23.3.3 of the ABAQUS Analysis User's Manual, for details). By default, when you directly specify a section shear stiffness, . You can now override the default value of when specifying shear stiffnesses, as shown in Figure 8–7. Alternatively, you can let ABAQUS automatically calculate the shear stiffnesses and slenderness compensation factor based on the elastic material definition used for the beam.
