Benefits: You now have a choice of two smoothing methods when using ALE adaptive meshing in ABAQUS/Standard, which gives you greater flexibility in tailoring your mesh smoothing for your particular application.
Description: In addition to the original configuration projection method available in previous releases, you can now specify the use of a volume-based smoothing algorithm. The volume-based smoothing algorithm provides better mesh smoothing in cases where
you expect extreme mesh deformation or distortion, or
you are using user subroutine UMESHMOTION to remove large amounts of material in an ablation simulation.
The user interface permits you to specify either smoothing algorithm or to define a mixture of the two methods. In addition, you can specify a geometric-based enhancement to the chosen algorithm.
