14.7 Plug-in to display mode contribution factors

Benefits: This plug-in allows you to find the dominant modes from the results of a modal frequency response analysis.

Description: This ABAQUS/CAE plug-in calculates the contribution of each mode to the total structural or acoustic response. This contribution is called the modal contribution factor (MCF) and is used in automotive noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) studies. The plug-in displays the calculated MCFs in separate viewports in the following forms:

X–Y plot
Projection plot
Bar graph
Polar plot
Vector plot

The bar graph in Figure 14–1 shows the first five ranked modal contribution factors calculated by the plug-in. The output database used in this example was generated by a coupled acoustic-structural analysis of a pick-up truck.
