Benefits: You can adjust the position of the midside nodes of second-order elements to allow for the singularity at the crack tip in a fracture mechanics analysis.
Description: You can use the Edit Mesh toolset to edit an orphan mesh part and move the midside nodes along edges connected to selected nodes. Moving the midside nodes allows you to include a singularity at the crack tip in a fracture mechanics analysis (see “Defining a crack in ABAQUS/CAE,” Section 12.5). ABAQUS/CAE moves the midside nodes based on the parameter that you enter. For example, if you enter a parameter of 0.25, ABAQUS/CAE positions the midside nodes one quarter of the length of the element edge away from the selected nodes.
