Five Trends in Computing Leading to Multi-Cloud Applications and Their Management

Seminar at Kindi Labs, Qatar University, Doha, Qatar, December 27, 2015.

Abstract
Five trends that are driving the computation currently are: Cloud computing, Software defined networking, Computation in the edge, Function virtualization, and Smart Everything (Internet of Things). While cloud computing is now very common, these trends will lead soon to multi-cloud computation supporting mobile devices. In this talk we talk about each of these trends and then about our OpenADN project for managing such globally distributed multi-cloud applications. OpenADN allows management of applications distributed globally on several private/public clouds. This is similar to the "Cloud of Clouds" idea currently developing in the industry. There is immense opportunity for carriers to play the key role in this space.

This project is a joint collaboration between Kindi Lab for Computing Research at Qatar University and Washington University in Saint Louis.
