This draft specifies the optical Network-to-Network Interface (NNI) requirements for non-packet-switch capable transport networks. This proposal defines for such networks the NNI signaling and routing requirements as well as the corresponding mechanisms and procedures.

The main objective is to propose a common approach for most of the models currently available for non-packet-switch optical transport networks. The signaling paradigm implicitly referenced within this document is the one defined by the G.MPLS concept. However, in a first approach, this proposal is not focused on a specific and detailed implementation of the G.MPLS signaling protocol.
