  • Goal: To develop an algorithm that increases the quantity and/or quality of infrared images sent from a picosatellite to a base station
  • Meetings
    • Thursday 8:30 AM - 10:00 AM

  • Status
    • Week 1 - Met with Mike Swarthout to come up with ideas for improving the picosatellite. Decided to focus on the communication
    • Week 2/3 - Researched communication systems used in previous picosatellite experiments. Based on the information we found we chose to focus on the Microhard MHX-2400 transceiver.
    • Week 4 - Examined the information from GeneSat-1 and estimated the relevant values for our flight path. We also searched for infrared images of Earth to get a sense of the data we will see.
    • Week 5 - Brainstormed ideas for algorithms to reduce the amount of information sent from the satellite on each pass. We decided on both throwing out bad images and trying to reduce the size of each image.
    • Week 6 - Brainstormed ways to model infrared images of the Earth in order to test our algorithms. We settled on using MATLAB to simulate the position and angle of the satellite and getting values for the image based on actual images of the Earth.
