Abstract:

According to recent biology literature, Mustelus canis sharks localize odors based on the time delay between olfactory signals detected by each of their nares. We intend to develop a robotic system that localizes odor sources from time delays between signals sensed by chemical sensors. Specifically, we will use an array containing a 5x2 electrode array, i.e., and electrode array consisting of two chemical "noses" with 5 "nostrils" each to track the direction of propagation of chemical vapors.
