48.3.2 Creating sets

The Set toolset allows you to create the following types of sets:

You create a geometry set when you are working on a native part created by ABAQUS/CAE. You create node and element sets when you are working on an orphan mesh part imported from an output database. For more information, see What is a set?, Section 48.2.1.

In addition, you can create either a part set or an assembly set. You create a part set when you are working with a part in the Part module or the Property module. When you instance the part in the Assembly module, you can refer to any part sets that you previously created. Finally, you create an assembly set when you are working in the assembly-related modules—Assembly, Interaction, Load, and Mesh. For more information, see How do part sets and assembly sets differ?, Section 48.2.2.

To create a set:

  1. From the main menu bar, select ToolsSetCreate.

Tip:  You can also click Create in the Set Manager.

The Create Set dialog box appears. The dialog box lists the types of sets that you can create based on the part or assembly displayed in the current viewport.

  2. In the dialog box:

    1. Enter a name for the set. Part sets created on different parts can use the same name; however, assembly set names must be unique.

    2. If necessary, select the set type.

    3. Click Continue.

  3. Select the entities in the viewport that you want to include in your set.

Tip:  You can limit the types of entities that you can select in the viewport by clicking the selection options tool in the prompt area and then clicking the options of your choice in the dialog box that appears. For more information, see Chapter 6, Selecting objects within the viewport.”

When you are finished selecting entities, click mouse button 2.
