You can create a face by selecting the edges of the new face. The selected edges must form a closed loop. ABAQUS/CAE creates the new face as a shell. If the new shell forms a closed part, you can use the solid-from-shell tool to convert the part to a solid. For more information, see Creating a solid from a shell, Section 47.7.2. The operation to create a face is stored as a feature of the part; as a result, you can use the Model Tree to delete faces that you created. ABAQUS/CAE creates the new face by projecting a face on the plane formed by the selected edges. As a result, you should not use the Create face tool if the resulting face would be very convex.
To create a new face:
From the main menu bar, select ToolsRepair.
ABAQUS/CAE displays the Geometry Repair Tools dialog box.
Tip: You can also create a face using the tool, located with the repair tools in the Part module toolbox. For a diagram of the repair tools in the toolbox, see An overview of repair techniques, Section 47.2.
From the dialog box, select Create face and click OK.
Select the edges that form a loop and define the edges of the new face. You can select the edges from the viewport or select an existing set containing the edges. You can select more than one loop, and ABAQUS/CAE will create more than one face. However, the loops should not be concentric.
Note: The default selection method is based on the selection method you most recently employed. To revert to the other method, click Select in Viewport or Sets on the right side of the prompt area.
From the prompt area, click Done.
ABAQUS/CAE creates the new face.
If you have finished repairing the part, you should check its validity by clicking mouse button 3 on the part in the Model Tree and selecting Update validity from the menu that appears.
