41.5.1 Creating a node

Select MeshEdit from the main menu bar to create a node by entering its coordinates in either the global coordinates system or a local coordinate system.

To create nodes:

  1. Enter the Mesh module.

  2. From the Object field in the context bar, select Part and select an orphan mesh part from the list of parts. This tool is available only for working on an orphan mesh part.

  3. From the main menu bar, select MeshEdit.

ABAQUS/CAE displays the Edit Mesh dialog box.

Tip:  You can also display the Edit Mesh dialog box using the tool, located at the bottom of the Mesh module toolbox.

  4. In the dialog box, do the following:

    1. In the Category field, select Node.

    2. From the Method list, select Create.

    3. Click OK.

ABAQUS/CAE displays the existing nodes. In hidden and shaded mode, only the visible nodes are displayed.

  5. If desired, you can enter the coordinates for the new node in a datum coordinate system that you have created rather than in the global coordinate system:

    1. In the prompt area, click Select.

    2. In the viewport, select the datum coordinate system to be associated with the coordinates of the new node. (For more information, see Creating datum coordinate systems, Section 40.9.)

  6. In the Coordinates field in the prompt area, enter the coordinates of the new node.

    ABAQUS/CAE creates the new node.

Tip:  If you make a mistake while creating a node, click Undo in the Edit Mesh dialog box to remove the most recently created node.

  7. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 as often as necessary to create additional nodes.

  8. When you have finished creating nodes, click the cancel button in the prompt area to exit the procedure.
