29.2.5 Saving an X–Y data object

ABAQUS/CAE provides several dialog boxes to help you specify X–Y data. Each of these dialog boxes contains a Save As button, which you can use to save the X–Y data object you create. You must save your X–Y data to do any of the following:

Saved data persist only for the duration of the session. To save your X–Y data object beyond the duration of the session, you must save the data to a file. You can either copy your X–Y data object to an output database (binary) file or write it to a report (ASCII) file. For information on copying X–Y data to an output database file, see Copying a session X–Y data object to an output database file, Section 29.2.6. For information on writing X–Y data to a report file, see Chapter 35, Generating tabular data reports.”

To save an X–Y data object:

  1. Specify your X–Y data.

    1. From the main menu bar, select ToolsXY DataCreate.

The Create XY Data dialog box appears.

Tip:  You can also specify X–Y data by clicking Create in the Data Manager or by using the tool in the toolbox.

    2. Choose the source of your data from the list, and click Continue.

ABAQUS displays the appropriate dialog box.

    3. Enter the necessary data or information in the dialog box.

  2. Save your data for the current ABAQUS session.

    1. Click Save As or Save (as available).

If you save data from the XY Data from ODB Field Output dialog box, the Save XYData dialog box appears. If you save X–Y data from any other dialog box, the Save XY Data As dialog box appears.

If you select multiple output variables in the History Output dialog box, you can choose in the Save XY Data As dialog box to perform one of the following operations on the variables before saving the data: sum, average, minimum envelope, maximum envelope, range, or square root of the sum of the squares (SRSS).

    3. Accept the default name, or enter the data object name of your choice in the text field.

Note:  If you save data from the XY Data from ODB Field Output dialog box, you must accept the default names. Likewise, if you select multiple output variables in the History Output dialog box and choose to save them individually, you must accept the default names.

    4. Click OK to close the dialog box.

  3. Click Dismiss or Cancel (as available) to close the output dialog box.
