24.5.10 Controlling results caching

You can choose to store analysis results in a cache during postprocessing to speed up the generation of images on the screen. However, caching results will consume system memory and may decrease overall performance. Switching to a new output variable or output database will automatically clear the current results cache.

To increase performance, you can reduce the frequency with which ABAQUS/CAE monitors the output database for updates, or you can disable the monitoring altogether. If you are displaying data from a remote output database, the performance of ABAQUS/CAE may be degraded if the time taken to monitor the database over the network is significant. For more information, see Accessing an output database on a remote computer, Section 9.3.

To control results caching:

  1. Locate the Results Caching options.

From the main menu bar, select ResultOptions; then click the Caching tab in the dialog box that appears.

  2. Use the Caching Options field to speed up the generation of images on the screen.

    1. Toggle on Cache deformed variable results to store the deformed variable results for the current output database in memory.

    2. Toggle on Cache primary variable results to store the primary variable results for the current output database in memory.

    3. Toggle on Cache cut fields to store the values used for displaying cut models in memory.

  3. Use the ODB Access Options field to increase performance when accessing an output database.

    1. Toggle off Check for ODB file updates to stop ABAQUS/CAE from monitoring the output database for updates.

    2. Enter the minimum time interval in seconds between checks of the output database for updates. A larger number will reduce the frequency with which ABAQUS/CAE checks the output database for updates.

  4. Your changes are saved for the duration of the session and will affect all subsequent display of results.
