To change the part instance from dependent to independent, you can click mouse button 3 on the part instance in the Model Tree and select Make Independent from the menu that appears. Similarly, you can select Make Dependent from the menu to change a part instance from independent to dependent.

You can also use the menu that appears when you click mouse button 3 on a part instance in the Model Tree to return to the Part module and edit the original part.
