4.7 Searching with logic operators

You can use the following logic operators to control the search behavior:

Minus (–) operator

Use the minus (–) operator to exclude occurrences of the specified word. You can also use Advanced Search to exclude occurrences of specified words (see Excluding unwanted terms, Section 4.5.1).

Plus (+)/and operator

Use the plus (+) or “and” operator to indicate that the search must include the specified word. This operator is generally used in conjunction with the permute operator.

Permute (@N) operator

Use the permute operator (@ symbol followed by a number) to indicate how many intersections of the words listed in the search panel the search should locate.

The plus (+) and minus (–) operators must be attached to the word to which they apply. There must be a space between the operator and any preceding term. The following examples show the use of logic operators to control search behavior:
