34.2.2 Customizing a time history animation

You can select which results steps and frames to include in your time history animation. By default, ABAQUS/CAE includes all results steps that have applicable frames and reads all frames for each step. To be applicable, a frame must contain output for all field variables associated with the plot you are animating.

To customize a time history animation:

  1. Locate the Time History options.

From the main menu bar, select OptionsAnimation; then click the Time History tab in the dialog box that appears. All available results steps are listed.

  2. Click steps to toggle their inclusion in your animation. (For more information, see Selecting multiple items from lists and tables, Section 3.2.11.)

  3. To customize the frequency at which ABAQUS reads frames, click either:

    • Read all to read all available frames or

    • Skip, then enter the number of frames to skip in the frames between reads box. For example, if you enter 1, every second frame is read.

  4. Click Apply to implement your changes.

The time history animation in the current viewport changes to include all selected frames of all highlighted steps.

Your changes are saved for the duration of the session and will affect all subsequent plots in this mode.
