11.7 Performance improvements for interacting radiation heat transfer

Benefits: Computational speed and memory usage for cavity radiation heat transfer have been improved substantially.

Description: Heat can be exchanged through radiation between parts of a heated surface in ABAQUS/Standard. The algorithm to compute the interaction operators has been upgraded significantly with regard to memory requirements, computational speed, interoperability with multipoint constraints, and algorithm technology.

The maximum permissible size of a cavity has been doubled to 40 thousand facets. Memory usage has been observed to reduce between 8% and 46% in test problems, and more accurate memory estimation procedures allow resources to be utilized more efficiently. Overall computational performance (wall clock time) has been observed to improve between 20% and 95% in large test problems.

The user interface is unaltered.
