3.1 Parallel execution

Products: ABAQUS/Standard  ABAQUS/Explicit  ABAQUS/CAE

Benefits: The MPI-based parallel execution mode allows ABAQUS/Standard and ABAQUS/Explicit to be executed in parallel on both shared and distributed memory architecture platforms.

Description: ABAQUS now provides an MPI-based parallel execution mode in addition to the previously existing thread-based parallel execution mode. The MPI-based parallel mode is the default in Version 6.5. This parallel execution mode enables ABAQUS to be run on both shared and distributed memory architecture platforms, while the thread-based mode is available only for shared memory architecture platforms. Use the command line parameter mp_mode=mpi to access the MPI-based parallel execution mode and mp_mode=threads to access the thread-based parallel execution mode. The value of the mp_mode parameter can also be set in the ABAQUS environment file.
